Serial MCP Server
Rust MCP stdio server and scriptable CLI for serial/UART devices, with a JSON macro DSL for repeatable send, delay and expect procedures
01 · What it does
- List ports, open, read, write and close serial connections (UTF-8, hex or base64)
- Bounded capture-window reads that wait for the first byte and stop on idle
- Set RTS and DTR control lines
- Load, plan and run JSON macro packs (send, delay, expect, assemblies) against a port
- Plan and simulate macros without opening hardware
02 · Install
$ git clone https://github.com/adancurusul/serial-mcp-server.git
$ cd serial-mcp-server
$ cargo build --release- cargo install --path . --locked puts the binary on your PATH
- Ships a Claude Code / Codex skill in skills/serial-debug that works through the CLI, with MCP optional
- README safety notes: confirm the port, voltage levels and baud settings first; many boards wire RTS/DTR to reset or boot mode
- An STM32 demo firmware lives in examples/STM32_demo
