Govee MCP Server

Control Govee smart lights through the Govee cloud API, with device allowlists, rate limiting and a dry-run mode

01 · What it does

  • List devices and read power, brightness, color and color temperature
  • Turn lights on or off and set brightness, RGB color or color temperature
  • Set scenes and batch several commands with coalescing

02 · Install

$ git clone https://github.com/joeynyc/Govee-MCP.git
$ cd Govee-MCP
$ npm install
$ cp .env.example .env
$ npm run build
$ claude mcp add govee node dist/server.js -e "GOVEE_API_KEY=your-api-key-here" -e "GOVEE_ALLOWLIST=your-device-ids"
  1. Get an API key from the Govee Developer Portal and put it in .env
  2. To find device IDs, run with an empty allowlist and ask for your Govee devices, then set GOVEE_ALLOWLIST
  3. GOVEE_DRY_RUN=true logs commands without touching devices. The LAN adapter is a stub with cloud fallback

03 · Client config (from README)

  "name": "govee",
