jlink-mcp

Lets an agent debug ARM Cortex-M boards through a SEGGER J-Link probe, with OpenOCD (ST-Link, CMSIS-DAP, FTDI) and Black Magic Probe backends in beta

01 · What it does

  • Flash .hex/.bin/.elf firmware, erase, reset, halt, step and resume
  • Read and write memory and registers, set hardware breakpoints
  • Stream RTT logs and filter them by level, module or regex
  • diagnose_crash decodes Cortex-M fault registers and the exception stack frame
  • Decode peripheral registers by name from a CMSIS-SVD file, and attach GDB for backtraces

02 · Install

$ /plugin marketplace add Klievan/jlink-mcp
$ /plugin install jlink-mcp
  1. The two commands are the README's Claude Code plugin path, which also installs its embedded-debugging skill
  2. Any other client: npx -y jlink-mcp with JLINK_DEVICE set to your target (config below is the repo's mcp-config.json)
  3. Also ships as a VS Code extension and a Nix flake (nix run github:Klievan/jlink-mcp)
  4. Ask for check_setup first; it reports what is missing. Pick the backend with PROBE_TYPE=jlink|openocd|blackmagic

03 · Client config (from README)

  "mcpServers": {
    "jlink": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "jlink-mcp"]
    }

Install steps taken from the project README (its recommended path first). Placeholders are the maintainer's. Not bench-tested by HardwareMCP yet.
