ESP32-CAM MCP Server

Firmware that turns an ESP32-CAM into an MCP server on your network: take photos, drive the LED, flash and GPIO, and read WiFi and system status

01 · What it does

  • Capture a photo, with optional flash (QVGA, kept under about 4 KB base64)
  • Turn the built-in LED on or off and fire the flash for 5-100 ms
  • Read and write GPIO pins (digital and analog) not used by the camera
  • Report WiFi signal and IP, memory, uptime, CPU and flash details
  • mDNS discovery and OTA firmware updates

02 · Install

$ git clone https://github.com/rzeldent/esp32-cam-ai.git
$ cd esp32-cam-ai
$ cp .env.template .env
$ pio run --target upload
$ pio device monitor
  1. Put WIFI_SSID and WIFI_PASSWORD in .env before building; the build fails without it
  2. The README's clone line uses a yourusername placeholder, so the real repo URL is shown here
  3. Use the IP (or mDNS hostname) from the serial monitor in the config, which is the README's VS Code mcp.json
  4. Primary target is the AI-Thinker ESP32-CAM; only that camera config is enabled for now

03 · Client config (from README)
